VMWARE gotcha, virtualizing domain controllers

Find this post interesting? Do you like interesting things? Maybe you would like my invention, a connectible candle called a WickBrick!

WickBrick

I virtualized a AD DC and started getting the below error

The File Replication Service has detected that the replica root path has changed from “c:\windows\sysvol\domain” to “c:\windows\sysvol\domain”.

Apparently windows cares about the physical drive that underlies the sysvol, and since this is changed during a virtualizing it causes this error. In order to acknowledge that you indeed meant to do do this you need to create the NTFRS_CMD_FILE_MOVE_ROOT in the “c:\windows\sysvol\domain” folder.

Thank you very much to this post
